Sling Meets:
Every month I volunteer with Babywearing Ireland by facilitating a sling meet in the Malahide Parish Pastoral Centre (beside St Sylvesters Church on Main Street, Malahide) from 10am to 12pm. Follow us on Facebook to keep up to date with dates of meet ups and library info. The Fingal Babywearing Ireland lending library will be available there every month. |
So...what's the difference between a sling demonstration and a sling meet?
What is ... a Sling Demonstration?
A Sling Demonstration is an informal meet up, usually held at a local group. It's an introduction to slings, so I will demonstrate how to use the various types of slings and carriers and we will have a chat about slings and safe babywearing. You can also try some on if there is time. Due to the group nature of these events, it is not possible for me to give one to one indepth assistance with slings or carriers. If after having attended a Sling Demo you feel you would like to have an in-depth one to one consultation, please contact me to arrange an appointment.
What is .... a Sling Walk & Talk?
A Sling Walk & Talk is where a group of us meet up in an outdoor location and go for a walk and have a chat. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends, chat to others about slings and when the weather is fine, it's lovely to be able to sit and have a picnic or let the kids play for a while. Weather dependant, there may be a chance to have a short sling demonstration. Now that the good weather is back, I'll be arranging a sling walk & talk soon!
What is ..... a Babywearing Ireland Sling Meet?
Babywearing Ireland (BWI) Sling Meets are social peer-to-peer support meetings, facilitated by volunteers who are experienced babywearers.
Peer-to-peer means that all those attending the meet help each other out, share their experience, maybe even their slings.
Facilitate means that BWI volunteers provide a space for the meeting to take place and are available to share information.
Sling Meets are a place where you
- can chat and learn about slings and babywearing,
- can get information about safe babywearing,
- can hear other people's and share your own experience about using slings,
- can ask questions you may have about day-to-day life with slings,
- can see short demos of different slings,
- may get a chance to try on slings,
- may be able to rent slings for a small fee at the end of the meet,
- learn about other babywearing resources
Sling Meets are not workshops or a safe space for in-depth advice and instruction/teaching. It is not possible for any BWI volunteer to give detailed instruction or professional advice at a BWI sling meeting.
